VOLUNTEER JOB ROLE DESCRIPTIONS
Welcome to The Great Escape Volunteer Crew descriptions.
Conference Shifts, in most cases, are generally 8-9 hours per day over the three days of the festival
Festival Production Shifts tend to fit into the schedule of performances and load in/out requirements and may be up to 12-16 hours per day, depending on the crew and/or venue
Selection does not guarantee acceptance and in some cases you may be asked to volunteer for another crew
CONFERENCE CREWS (You can choose up to 3 different Conference Crews to work on)
ARTIST REGISTRATION
Volunteers on this crew will be involved in the onsite registration of performing artists. This will require greeting artists’ road managers, checking names against online registrations, printing and distribution of artist credentials and any relevant materials. Located at the Brighton Dome, Artist Registration runs from 5pm – 10pm Wednesday 9th May and 8:30am-11pm Thursday 10th – Saturday 12th May. There are multiple shifts available over different time slots to help you earn your pass
CONFERENCE ACCESS
This crew works primarily from the Brighton Dome, the Old Courthouse, and the Pavilion Theatre and assists and monitors delegate entry into panels, meeting and greeting delegates when they enter delegate registration and the Delegate Networking Area. The Conference Access team works single daily shifts of 8-9 hours per day from 8:30am Thursday 10th May – Saturday 12th May
CONFERENCE PANELS
This crew meets and greets panelists, co-ordinates the panel rooms, clears after each panel session, assists Conference Access with delegate entry into panels and generally ensures the smooth running of The Great Escape conference panels. Conference Panel crews work single daily shifts of 8-9 hours per day from 8:30am Thursday 10th May – Saturday 12th May
CONFERENCE PANEL TECHNICIANS
Conference Panel Technicians will work alongside the Conference Panels crew and be responsible for various technical and production elements for the Industry panels. Volunteers for this crew must have some technical knowledge, an understanding of using sound boards, set up and placement of microphones (table and lapel mics) and any sound/recording/audio-visual requests that may arise during the Conference. This crew works single daily shifts of 8-9 hours per day from 8:30am Thursday 10th May – Saturday 12th May
DELEGATE BAG HANDOUT
This crew assists with the setting up of the delegate bag stuffing operation, the onsite storage of delegate bags and the distribution of those bags to the delegates. Delegate Bag Handout runs from 5pm – 11pm Wednesday 9th May and 8:30am-11pm Thursday 10th – Saturday 12th May. There are multiple shifts available over different time slots to help you earn your pass

EVENT SUPPORT
This dedicated crew has no regular hours depending on the ‘sub-crew’ – but essentially, if you’re in it, you’re in for the duration. We need people to assist in several areas of the festival – Sponsorship, Surveys and data collection, photography and various other areas. This crew liaises with TGE management
FAST TRACK
This small crew looks after the distribution of our Delegate Priority Entry passes to various gigs throughout the festival. This is a single shift of approx. 6 hours per day from 8:30am Thursday 10th May – Saturday 12th May. It is run out of the Brighton Dome
FESTIVAL HUB
Festival Hub crew assists with the various elements of operation – crowd liaison, assisting the TGE Tech Crew with band’s load in / out and numerous other tasks as defined by the Festival Hub Site Manager. There may be some lifting involved. Festival Hub runs from 8:30am- (approx.) 7pm Thursday 10th – Saturday 12th May. There are multiple shifts available over different time slots to help you earn your pass
PRODUCTION OFFICE RUNNERS
This crew works closely with The Great Escape onsite production office. Based out of the Brighton Dome, this crew will be involved in a variety of areas of the festival and will be required to do any number of tasks as requested by TGE management team. Production Office Runners are required from 5pm – 11pm Wednesday 9th May and 8:30am-11pm Thursday 10th – Saturday 12th May. There are multiple shifts available over different time slots to help you earn your pass.
SPEED NETWORKING
This small crew assists with the Speed Networking setup, as well as liaising with the various agencies hosting these networking sessions. This is a single daily shift of approx. 8 hours per day from 9:00am Thursday 10th May – Saturday 12th May and is based in the Brighton Dome
VOLUNTEER REGISTRATION
Volunteers on this crew will be involved in the onsite registration of our amazing volunteers. This will require assigning onsite shifts, assisting the Volunteer Manager with various duties throughout the festival. Located at the Brighton Dome, Volunteer Registration runs from 10am – 5:00pm Wednesday 9th May and 8:30am-11pm Thursday 10th – Saturday 12th May. There are multiple shifts available over different time slots to help you earn your pass
WRISTBAND EXCHANGE
This crew is located in The Great Escape Festival Hub and distributes Wristbands for people attending the festival. They work closely with the Festival Hub crew. Hours run from 5pm – 11pm Wednesday 9th May and 8:30am-11pm Thursday 10th – Saturday 12th May. There are multiple shifts available over different time slots to help you earn your pass
FESTIVAL PRODUCTION CREW (you can select only ONE crew)
BIG YELLOW
This crew only requires 1-2 dedicated volunteers. Based at our offsite storage facility, volunteers would be required to check in backlines, sponsorship product, and additional technical equipment stored at this location. Some physical lifting may be required as well as an early start time. Shift times are flexible and will be confirmed directly with our Technical Production Management team
DOOR TEAM
Door Team volunteers are generally assigned to a specific venue throughout the festival and work to flexible shifts based on venue performances and load in/out schedules. The Door Team assists with various tasks and assists and takes direction from the TGE Venue Rep – this may include facilitating audience entry (and exit) at the venue. In some cases there are multiple shifts available at some venues to help you earn your pass, but generally this is one daily shift that starts later in the day and finishes in the early hours of the morning.
FESTIVAL TECHNICAL PRODUCTION
Volunteers for our Festival Technical Crew must have some technical knowledge of how a live performance works and generally either have some gig experience or have some relevant training. The opportunities will cover many disciplines from backline to live audio to lighting; and volunteers will be assigned a role depending on their interests and experience. Generally the volunteers will assist a festival venue technician or FOH engineer, both setting up for each band, running the stage and also some opportunities to control the show.

LOAD IN / OUT
The Load In / Out crew assists with the loading in of the festival and subsequent load out. This crew is physically demanding and will require some heavy lifting. Shifts are long, flexible and will cover a variety of locations and venues throughout the festival. These shifts are also based around performance schedules and load in/out timings. Some experience is desirable, but certainly not essential
QUEUE BUSTERS
This small, select crew generally roves the festival during the evening and assists Door Teams and Venue Reps with queue management and line control. Volunteers in this crew must be prepared to be friendly, assertive, and reliable. Some experience is preferable, but certainly not essential. This is a single daily shift running from approx. 6pm – 1am on Thursday 10th – Saturday 12th May.
STREET GIG CREW
The Street Gig Crew is responsible for the delivery, production, and load in/out of various ‘secret’ street gigs that occur two-three times daily throughout the festival. This crew is physically demanding, will require heavy lifting, and at times, some elements of crowd control. Some experience is preferable but not essential. Hours are single daily shifts starting from approx. 8am – 6/7pm Thursday 10th – Saturday 12th May.
VENUE REP ASSISTANTS
Each person in this crew will be assigned a venue for the duration of the festival and will work directly with the TGE Venue Rep in the venue. Duties include assisting the Venue Rep with communicating with performing artists and artist crew, stage management, technical liaison, venue and venue security liaison, and working with the Door Team and Queue Busters. These are long shifts up to 16-18 hours per day at a specific venue but provide great experience if you want to work in the live music industry as a promoter or stage manager.
